Cloudcuckooland is a project about extinction, songs that we have lost and ones that we can make in memory. Throughout 2023, I worked with Kooman’s Poppentheater to learn how to make puppets. The puppets I have been slowly constructing are based on a collection of 62 taxidermy birds in a collection at Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Leiden. In attempt to reanimate them, I have been researching their extinction stories and thinking through ways to carve out an afterlife for the birds in our poetic imagination.

Supported through a subsidy from The Hague Municipality to learn puppet-making with Kooman’s Poppentheater. The research was further deepend through a year-long fellowship with the Deep Futures Research Group, run by the Design Lectorate at The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague.
